Why Buy New

This brand-new BorgWarner VGT OEM turbocharger for your Cayman/Boxster GTS 2.5 can be purchased as a replacement turbocharger or as a core to be upgraded to any of our RaggDoll Motorsports series turbos. By doing this, you do not need to send in your core. Many customers choose this option to get a brand-new wastegate and VGT module.

Turbocharger

Turbochargers are commonly used on many modern cars as they allow smaller displacement engines to make the same power as higher displacement engines. In addition, turbocharged engines tend to be more fuel efficient relative to the power that they output. Turbochargers are relatively simple mechanical devices. They use exhaust gas to pressurize the intake air. With more air volume entering the engine it is possible to add more fuel which in turn allows for more power as well as efficiency.

Turbochargers are generally cooled by engine coolant and lubricated by engine oil. So it's not uncommon to see two feed lines going to the turbocharger and two return lines coming from the turbo. Over time turbochargers like all parts wear out. Smoke coming out of the exhaust can indicate that seals in the turbo have gone bad and oil is entering the exhaust. Really worn turbos also don't build boost effectively. If you suspect your turbocharger is worn or on its way top catastrophic failure it is advised to replace it before further engine damage can occur.

Turbocharger Failure Symptoms

  • Oil leaks
  • Smoking exhaust
  • Low boost pressure
  • Limp model
  • High oil consumption
  • Play in turbine shaft due to worn bearing
